About Bungalow Woodworks
About 20 years ago, I bought a Bungalow in the American University Park neighborhood of Washington, D.C. At the time I didn’t know the difference between a bungalow and a four-square. Over time I began to learn about this style of house and the Arts and Crafts movement in general. At the same time, I was getting more and more serious about woodworking. Over time I replaced every piece of furniture in the house with pieces that I built consistent with the Bungalow style. Then I decided to take the leap, leaving my job as an engineer/manager at NASA to pursue furniture making as a full time job.
I am fond of many styles of Arts and Crafts furniture, including Glasgow/Charles Renee Mackintosh, Mission/Gustov Stickley, Praire/Frank Lloyd Wright, and (following a visit to the Gamble House in Pasadena California) Greene and Greene.
My goal is to build both reproductions of classic Arts and Crafts pieces and unique furniture that has a heritage in Arts and Crafts and bungalow traditions. I do not mass produce, or even have production runs of a specific design. I prefer establishing a relationship with a client and building to their needs and desires for furniture or fine cabinetry.
